annex
Skinner New Annex delayed opening to Monday, January 28th

Due to a delay in the final city inspection and cleaning, classroom moves to the new annex will take place on Friday, January 25th. Our Superstars and teachers will begin instruction in their new spaces on Monday, January 28th.

Superstars will arrive as usual in the gym or cafeteria Monday morning and be escorted to their new classrooms!  Students will have the opportunity to safely take their items to new classrooms ensuring no one is overloaded with schoolbooks or personal supplies.

Please be patient as our teachers get their rooms unpacked and set up.

Over the next few weeks, there are still be a few minor finishing touches to complete in the annex but the classrooms are ready with new furniture for our Superstars. Also, we will be communicating any updates lunchroom assignments, procedures or other classroom details as we transition into the new addition.  More information will follow on the formal opening with Mayor Emanuel, Alderman Burnett , CPS officials and Skinner parents. We are so proud of our Superstar principal - thank you for all you do! We are truly grateful to get the 22 new classrooms for our instructional programs !

parking

Dear Skinner Parents:

We have been notified by the administrative staff at the Police Academy that Skinner parents are using the Police Academy parking lot for drop off in the morning and pick-up in the afternoon. The POLICE ACADEMY  PARKING LOT IS FOR ACADEMY STAFF ONLY. Skinner parents may NOT park in the academy's parking lot. Please avoid the risk of getting a huge parking ticket or  at worse getting towed.

As a safety reminder, please remember to follow our drop off and pick up guidelines :
  • Pull up to the curb beyond the crosswalk to drop your child off
  • Do not park or drop off in the school bus zone
  • Do not block the crosswalks where students must cross the street safely
  • Do not double park to let your child out of the car
  • Be courteous and patient to other Superstar parents and students during drop off and pick up times

Thank you for your cooperation and attention to keeping our Superstars safe and avoiding an unnecessary parking/traffic ticket.

Wear RED on February 7th for CHD Awareness Week!

CHD

Congenital Heart Defect (aka CHD) Awareness Week kicks off on February 7th through February 14th.

Did you know that every 1 in 100 live births in the United States has a child is born with a heart defect?  Heart defects are conditions that people live with throughout their entire lives.  There are an estimated 1 million children and 1.4 million adults living in the United States that are living with heart conditions.  By wearing red on February 7th you help show your support and honor to all your family, friends and classmates that are living with these heart issues.   This week is also a time to recognize those who care for children and adults born with heart defects, as well as researchers and other heart experts!

Last year some of the Skinner Superstars supported CHD Awareness Week by wearing red on February 7th.   We'd love for the entire school to participate in this event!

For further information and facts about Congenital Heart Defects, you can learn a lot HERE!

For further information on Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week, you can read about it HERE

So please wear red on February 7th!
